Introduction
How is it that all Yordles in this game seem to be annoying? Teemo is the most obvious example, but other Yordles are no exception. Lulu seems like she never let’s you kill her ADC. Tristana feels like you look away for 2 seconds, and your turret is gone. And Kennen. KENNEN! What an annoying top laner. You go to farm, and he harasses you with him basic attacks. You go to kill him and he’s great at brawls, with her stuns and high damage. You try to farm under turret and his Q still harasses you. You try to gank him and he just zooms away. What can you do? In midgame he has high damage and utility. You could choose another mage to counter him but… you’re a top laner.
Abilities

Passive – Mark of the Storm
Enemies hit by Kennen’s abilities gain a Mark of the Storm for 6 seconds. At 3 stacks, the marks consume themselves to stun the target for 1.25 seconds.

Q – Thundering Shuriken
Kennen throws a charged shuriken in a line in front of him, dealing magic damage to the first enemy it hits.

W – Electrical Surge
Passive: Every 5 auto attacks, Kennen’s basic attack is empowered, dealing extra magic damage and applying a Mark of the Storm
Active: Kennen sends out a surge of electricity to all enemies afflicted by Mark of the Storm, dealing damage.

E – Lightning Rush
Kennen turns into a ball of electricity, moving faster and gaining bonus armor and magic resistance. He can’t use basic attacks while in the ball, but can use spells. All enemies he touches take damage and have a Mark of the Storm stack applied.

R – Slicing Maelstrom
All enemies nearby take magic damage every 0.5 seconds for 3 seconds.
Our Top Counter Tips For Kennen

Doran’s Shield can help block a lot of the basic attack harass Kennen will do in lane.
Kennen has troubles with champions who have a knockback (Lee Sin, Tristana), as he needs to get into the middleof the fight to use his ultimate.

Step away from him when he has lightning around his hand, that’s the particle effect for his enhanced attack.
If you have a Mark of the Storm, be wary. He can get free damage by his electrical surge.

Mundo is strongest in the midgame. During lategame, he doesn’t do great damage and during early game his health costs make casting spells painful.
Kennen needs to use his abilities to push in the wave, so if you have someone who can push fast, go ahead and force him to farm under turret. Do this especially if you see the jungler somewhere else, because you can then teleport. If Kennen teleports, he loses a wave of farm.

Champions That Counter Kennen

Jayce
If you can leap to him, he’s dead. Kennen doesn’t do well when enemy champions are close to him. Youhave good poke and good burst damage. In the midgame, you can poke him down so that when he initiates, he’slow on health. Build manamune first, but consider buying a hexdrinker if the lane is a little difficult.

Graves
You’re ranged as well, so you don’t get harassed by him. In lane, you can probably kill him just due to your higher burst at early levels. In the midgame however, he’s going to have a level of utility that means that you either have to push top hard or carry hard. Push him in constantly, but keep your bushes warded well.

Lissandra
You’re a top lane mage, which is a huge counter to Kennen. You can trade evenly, but you can ult him so that he can’t jump into your team and ult. This is a skill matchup. Build Abyssal if you’re losing, Rod of the Ages if you two are trading evenly.

Gnar
In your ranged form, you can chase Kennen down, and in your Mega form, you can CC lock him. Build Spirit Visage first.

Aegis of The Legion

Doran's Shield

Spirit Visage
While Kennen does a lot of damage with his basic attacks early game, don’t be fooled and buy armor. He’s going to transition into mainly magic damage during the rest of the game. Just build a Doran’s Shield to take away some ofthe bite from his basic attacks.
